The Steam Train

The Sovata steam train is a locomotive built in 1949 in Chrzanov, Poland, which runs on coal and hardwood. It pulls a train consisting of 5 gondola-type cars and runs on the former narrow gauge railway that used to connect Târgu Mureș and Praid, which was inaugurated in 1915, and then closed in 1997. In 2011, the section between Sovata and Câmpu Cetății was rebuilt and is now used for tourist purposes. In the summer season, tourists can ride the 14-kilometre long track to Câmpu Cetății, where they can dine at one of the famous trout farms, hike in nature or admire the Mini Niraj Visitor Centre, where there is a model representing the entire Niraj Valley and products for sale by local producers.

Saca Mare Peak - Gurghiu Mountains

Saca Mare Peak is the highest peak in Gurghiu Mountains, with an altitude of 1777 m, located in the middle of the Saca Reserve. It is a favourite destination for many mountaineers, offering spectacular scenery, especially in winter, when it can be covered by ski touring or snowshoeing. It can be accessed on foot or by motorised vehicles, both from the resort of Sovata, in the direction of the ski slope, and from the Bucin Pass, mostly on forest roads. Close to the peak there is a well-maintained refuge, run by the Mureș Mountain Rescue team.
