The Târnave Wine Region

The Târnave wine region lies between Târnava Mica and Târnava Mare rivers and is the most representative and largest of the vineyards in Transylvania. Grapevines have been cultivated in this area for many millennia, the Romans, Hungarians and Saxons settled here bringing their own contributions to the quality of the wines produced here. In the village of Mica, of Mureș county, Villa Vinèa winery is worth mentioning, which was founded in 2004 by a South Tyrolean entrepreneur, who fell in love with these gentle hills that reminded him of Tuscany. Although this region is one of the best regions in Romania for white grapes, since 2004 Pinot Noir and Fetească Neagră varieties have also been planted here, offering a surprisingly good quality to wines. The cultivated area is 62 ha, on which 12 local and international grape varieties are grown.
