“Tyúkász” Hill Chapel
Full description
Overlooking Sovata from the top of “Tyúkász” Hill, this small Roman Catholic chapel offers a serene and reflective experience. Built in 1888 at the initiative of hermit János Esztergár, the chapel is accessed via a symbolic Way of the Cross, marked by 14 wooden crosses that he placed himself along the forest path.
The location blends quiet devotion with natural beauty. Visitors are rewarded with sweeping views of Sovata and the surrounding hills, making it an ideal spot for peaceful rest, photography, or light hiking. The chapel is both a spiritual monument and a charming local heritage site.
Admission is free, and while the chapel does not have a fixed opening schedule, the path and area are always open to visitors. It’s a perfect detour for those seeking tranquility and an authentic local experience in nature.
