Exhibition Opening: The Master and the Disciple – Vasile Chazar & Mircea Bochiș

The Centrul de Cultură, Artă și Agrement Târgu Mureș, in partnership with the Primăria Municipiului Târgu Mureș and the Muzeul Județean de Artă «Centrul Artistic Baia Mare», have the distinct pleasure of inviting you to the opening reception of the exhibition “The Master and the Disciple – Vasile Kazar and Mircea Bochiș.”
The event will take place on Thursday, February 26, at 5:00 PM, at the Galeria Cetății, located within the Medieval Citadel of Târgu Mureș.
The traveling exhibition “The Master and the Disciple” may be regarded as a dialogue across time between two prominent figures of Romanian art: Vasile Kazar, master of Maramureș graphic art, and Mircea Bochiș, a contemporary artist who expands and reinterprets the master’s legacy through a current visual language.
🔸 Vasile Kazar is one of the defining figures of Romanian graphic art in the second half of the 20th century. His work, marked by compositional rigor, expressive force, and profound symbolic depth, explores existential, mythological, and social themes. He created a distinctive visual universe in which tradition and modernity coexist in a dynamic balance.
🔹 Mircea Bochiș is a complex artist—painter, graphic artist, and visual experimenter—whose practice is characterized by a continuous reinvention of artistic language. His works investigate identity, memory, corporeality, and the relationship between image and contemporary society. In dialogue with Kazar’s work, Bochiș proposes a contemporary, often playful and reflective perspective, in which the image becomes a tool for questioning reality and self-representation.
The public will be able to discover works by Vasile Kazar from the collections of the Muzeul Județean de Artă «Centrul Artistic Baia Mare», alongside recent series created by Mircea Bochiș: Letter-Poems, The World Upside Down, and In Search of the Perfect Self / The One Thousand Faces.
The exhibition proposes an encounter between generations and a reflection on visual memory, exploring how the image continues to shape and define our world.
