On April 22 at 4:00 PM, the exhibition “Roma Culture Between Tradition and Modernity” will be inaugurated — an initiative that brings together archival images and fashion pieces inspired by traditional Roma attire and customs.
The exhibition is an invitation to discover, understand, and appreciate the heritage of the Roma ethnic group as part of universal heritage.
Guest speakers:
  • Nicolae Băciuț, writer and journalist
  • Zita Moldovan, designer and owner of the fashion collection Loly Haute Couture
  • Roxana Maria Man, exhibition coordinator – opening and presentation of the exhibition
"Culture is a construct that should help us change in ways that lead to better living standards. It is a continuous process, in which value hierarchies are established and redefined based on the development and evolution of certain models — often rooted in tradition.
In the case of the Roma, the path toward modernization did not follow the natural course taken by the majority population or other ethnic groups.
A historical disadvantage, materialized through rejection, marginalization, or forced assimilation, has deeply impacted the destiny of the Roma people and hindered their chances for normal development. This led to the evolution of a marginalized culture, burdened with a dishonorable fate and a self-perception marked by negative, self-stigmatizing awareness.
When we talk about the Roma, we are talking about injustice, abuse, and trauma.
The modernization or integration of the Roma, under the particular conditions of a traumatic past, is a complex endeavor. It requires the depth of a healing process — a collective healing, where full understanding is the expression of kindness and compassion."
