Core exhibition
Opening: Friday, July 12, 2024, 18:00
Main curator: Dr. János ORBÁN, researcher
Bernády György (1864-1938), an emblematic figure of the modern development of Târgu Mureș, is considered an iron-willed mayor, under whose tireless guidance the city's emblematic buildings were built, including the Old Town Hall, the Palace of Culture and the city's most representative schools, as well as the modern infrastructure of a European city: the aqueduct, sewage and asphalting.
But who was Bernády György really? What were the factors that contributed to his spectacular achievements? The exhibition organized by the History Section of the Mures County Museum aims to answer these questions by presenting his networks and social connections, underlining that his work had a significant impact not only at the local level.
The exhibition presents the politician during the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, his relations with the architects and artists who realized the great works in the city, his trip to America, his involvement in Freemasonry and his work as a national politician in the interwar period. Visitors will also discover aspects of Bernády's personal life.
Incorporating the results of new historical research over the past decade, the exhibition, carefully prepared over the course of a year, displays models of buildings Bernády envisioned but never realized and several of his personal objects, which have so far been hidden from the general public.
The realization of the exhibition was made possible with the support of the "Hungarian Genius" Program of the Hungarian Cultural Fund and the Mures County Council. The main partner institutions of the exhibition are: Mureș County Service of the Romanian National Archives, University of Óbuda (Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering Ybl Miklós), Hungarian Museum of Architecture and Historical Monuments Documentation Center, Association of Regional Museums of Hungary.
The exhibition 'Bernády György. Social Ties and Networks of Relations" will be open to the public in the Palace of Culture from July 12, 2024, from Tuesday to Friday between 9.00 and 16.00, on Saturdays and Sundays between 9.00 and 14.30. Closed on Mondays. Visiting fees: 25 lei standard (adults), 12 lei for pensioners and 6 lei for pupils and students.
We welcome you to discover the fascinating story of a visionary leader and his impact on our city!
