Christmas Markets in Mures County - 2022

Christmas is the most anticipated time of the year, a true occasion for celebration. Over the years, people have preserved traditions and customs that they pass on from generation to generation, and Christmas Markets are events that unite us and introduce us in the magical atmosphere of Christmas.

 

Normally, the markets take place in December, and they are organized in public squares or in specially arranged squares in towns and villages. They are a traditional way of celebrating Christmas and making us enjoy the specific atmosphere of this period.

 

 

Markets illuminated by thousands of lights, carols, the smell of baked Christmas treats and mulled wine, the laughter of children and the various delicacies are all part of the Christmas Markets. They are a meeting place for local communities and offer a variety of products from Christmas food and drinks to decorations and gifts.

 

In this article, we would like to present the Christmas Markets that take place in our county and the events that are organized there.

 

 

The Christmas Market in Târgu Mureș started on December 5th in the Roses’ Square and the Theatre Square and it has prepared many surprises for the visitors. Around 35 craft stalls and local producers will take you through traditional cuisines with hot drinks and seasonal snacks.

 

Every year, children come accompanied by their parents or grandparents to see Santa Claus. This year, Santa's Train is waiting for the little ones to take them on a fairytale journey to his Little Hut, where they can taste Christmas treats.

 

The new attraction of the Market is the carousel located in the centre of the square. The festive atmosphere is sprinkled with festive programs that take place on the stage next to the Christmas tree.

Christmas themed events also take place in Promenada Mall, where a handmade Christmas fair will take place. Santa's elves are ready to prepare the most special gifts for your loved ones. A symbolic gift, handmade with love awaits you between December 16 - 18 in Promenada Mall, Târgu Mureș.

 

Christmas is about gifts, about the joy of giving and sharing it with your loved ones. Gifts can be given in various forms: from traditional holiday gifts to giving a helping hand to those who really need it. On Sunday, December 18, the charity Christmas Fair "Giving and Getting BIG" takes place at J'ai Bistrot Târgu Mureș between 12 and 6 pm. Carols are from ancient and Christian times and are valuable traditions that bring a smile to our face and fill our heart with joy. Talented students and dedicated teachers will perform together a varied repertoire, made of both classical pieces and modern music in the “Christmas Melodies” event.

 

This winter, Russel McGregor – the conductor of Johann Strauss Ensemble of Vienna returns to the stage of the Palace of Culture in Târgu Mureș with a show dedicated to children. The Christmas Market in Sighisoara can be visited until January 5 and takes place in the Medieval Citadel of Sighișoara. The Gem of Transylvania, as this little charming town is often called, introduces us in the wonderful atmosphere of winter holidays with traditional dishes within the citadel walls.

 

To highlight the spirit of the holidays, this year’s Christmas market has an ecological ice rink. All of you who love winter sports can enjoy a festive atmosphere, a hot chocolate around this modern ice rink.

Reghin has prepared well for this year’s Christmas Market so that every generation will find the right amount of Christmas magic for themselves, with a cup of hot chocolate or mulled wine, in a fairytale setting. The market is open between December 12 - 23, with daily activities for children between 4 - 7 p.m., including creative workshops for Christmas wreaths, glittery tattoos, model balloons, a magic show for children and many more.

 

Another event organized for the first time is the Christmas Market in the village of Cund, which promises to be a special one, if we consider the outstanding culinary profile of the area. It will take place on the weekend of December 17-18, in the Parish Hall of Cund  and it is a charity event, for the benefit of the Primary School in Cund. In addition to the special artisanal and culinary offer, brought to you by Manufactura de Brânza, Christian Harfmann or Valea Verde Retreat – Transilvania, visitors will also be able to enjoy a Photo Corner, open fires, outdoor live baking, and finally, the fair will end on the chords of the famous artist Vizi.
