Tourist route: Sighișoara - Breite Plateau - Stejărenii - Sighișoara

Old trees between 400 and 600 years and up to 1.8 m in diameter, await you on the plateau near Sighisoara, in the largest and best preserved pasture habitat with secular gorges and oaks in central and eastern Europe. Here, in the middle of the forest, in just 133 ha, you will find 10 of nationally known plants (380 species and subspecies of plants). A total of 115 species of vertebrates have been identified here, most of them protected by law. A favorite place for mushrooms (30 edible species), wild garlic or other healthy treats that nature can provide. All along this trip you can observe many species of plants, birds and animals, like the woodpecker, singing birds, small lizzards, bats or playful butterflies, and the atmosphere is from another world. In the winter, you will surely find traces of wolves, brown bears or wild cats.

The trail starts on Ana Ipătescu Street and winds up a steep slope towards the forest. In the forest the trail soon stops climbing and reaches the Breite Plateau. The last segment follows the forest line to the pebbled forest road. Follow the red strip marking for approximately 6.2 km amidst solitary ancient oaks, then through the dense deciduous forest. On the right-hand side you will find the blue strip marking taking you down to the village of Stejăreni, through the forest in the first half and then along a hillcrest down to the first houses. Cross the village on the main road (by the village church) and at its northern border leave the marking and take communal road 57 to the north for approximately 8.4 km along the Beșei Valley until you get to national road 14. Turn right on this asphalt road and continue for approximately 6.2 km to Sighișoara.
