Village museum Chibed

Full description

The idea of establishing the museum was conceived by Seprődi János Cultural Association in Chibed. The purpose was to preserve the values that are the tangible evidence of local traditional farming peasant life. The museum's collection was expanded with donations from the locals, and with the help of non-refundable financial sources, it was possible to buy back the valuables that had already been taken abroad.

Handmade household items show the ingenuity, craftsmanship and imaginative richness of the Szekler people. In addition to the practical purpose, the clothes and linens hand-woven and embroidered by the Szekler women stand as testimony to the rich spiritual world and the love for beauty of their wearers and creators. The oldest piece in the museum is a 122-year-old women's head scarf.

The music historian and folklorist János Seprődi (b. 1874 Chibed, † 1923 Cluj-Napoca), after whom the museum was named, played an undeniable role in preserving the legacy of the local folk music treasure, as an integral part of the cultural heritage of Chibed . The objects and materials found in the museum are here to testify this.

The museum commemorates also several personalities involved in the village life of Chibed.

In the year 2000, a memorial room was installed in memory of Gábor Madaras (1918-1980), doctor in law and folk singer whose life was closely linked to Chibed. One of the important stages of the economic development of Chibed was the period between 1908 and 1940, in which one of the defining personalities in the local life was the teacher Imreh Zsigmond.
Also here is a copy of the photograph of István Mátyus, the first doctor of the Seat of Mureș, who was also noted for building the church (1871-1872) for his local community.

The museum is open during the holidays and during events organized by the village, but it can be visited at any time, if an appointment is required at least 12 hours in advance, to the caretaker / president of the association, Mrs. Emma Borbély, at the following telephone number: 004 (0 ) 752 154 155.
