Sângeorgiu de Mureș Salt Baths
The Baths are located in the town of the same name, 5 km from Târgu Mureș, in the direction of Reghin. The resort is famous for its salty waters and mineral mud and has been known since 1880, when there was a small pool here, fed from a natural surface spring, which had a salty-sulphurous water content. But in 1912, when drilling for methane gas, salt water was discovered at a depth of 864 metres, followed by two more boreholes, and by the following year it was already functioning as a resort, where people bathed in the salt water. The resort developed continuously, especially after the 1980s. The water here has the highest concentration of iodine in Transylvania (11.4 mg/l) and the baths cover an area of 13 ha, now owned by the Apollo Club Hotel.
