The Art Nouveau artistic style emerged at the end of the 19th century and is known in Transylvania as Secession (the name used in Austria and Hungary). In Mureș county, the most representative Art Nouveau buildings are in Târgu Mureș - the Palace of Culture (1911-1913) and the Administrative Palace (1905-1907) are some of the most beautiful Art Nouveau buildings in the country, followed by other representative public buildings of the same style: the former Agrarian Bank (1903), Feigenbaum House (1906-1907), Vámos House (1910), Pensioners' Palace (1909-19010), Bolyai Farkas High School (1908-1909), the building of the former Chamber of Commerce and Industry (1909). All these buildings can be discovered on a pleasant walk through the centre of Târgu Mureș.
