Batoș Wine and Fruit-Growing Area

The Batoș area is rich in livestock farms, beekeepers and many vegetable growers, but Batoș became famous for its fruit growing, especially after collectivisation, when 1000 hectares of orchards were founded here, becoming a fruit heaven. The star of the area is the locally and nationally recognised Batoș apple, which has special organoleptic characteristics thanks to the soil, climate, configuration of the land and the skill of the local fruit growers. In the Batoș apple-growing basin, which includes the orchards in the villages of Uila, Batoș and Dedrad, about. 200 ha of orchards are still in use. Winemaking also has a rich tradition in the Batoș area, as it was brought here by Saxon settlers, and Liliac winery preserves this tradition, harvesting grapes by hand from the vineyard which covers a total area of 52 ha (38 ha in Batoș and 14 ha in Lechința). The winemaking process is carried out by using the latest technology throughout the production process, capturing the beauty and characteristics of each variety. Wine tastings are also organised for groups at Liliac Lodge.
