“Play with the Figure” X Transylvanian Legényes and Verbunk Competition

This year marks the jubilee season of the Transylvanian Legényes and Verbunk Competition, which for the tenth time calls the most talented male dancers of the Carpathian Basin to competitive dance. Held as part of the Târgu Mureș Festival, the event is a fitting celebration of tradition preservation, virtuosity, and not least, the communal experience.
The competition has a dual purpose: on the one hand, to encourage the high-level mastery of legényes and verbunk dance forms, and on the other, to provide an opportunity for all those who wish to challenge themselves within this uniquely rich male dance tradition.
Each year, the prestigious competition builds on different dance dialects from Transylvania. Over the years, it has featured dance materials from the areas of Maros, Kalotaszeg, Küküllő, Gyimes, and Mezőség, among others. The year 2025 is no exception: fidelity to authentic source materials and individual performance style remain the foundation of the jury’s evaluation.
