The Smile of the Transylvanian Plain (HU)
Apr-28
The performance titled Mezőség mosolya is a folklore program that also includes dance theater elements, but traditional folk dance techniques prevail in these as well.
The program is a reflection on the diversity, musical richness, and vitality of Mezőség's dances, which developed from the mutual influence of the dance cultures of Hungarians, Romanians, and Gypsies living side by side.
According to György Martin, ethnic differences are of no importance in Transylvanian folk dance. They dance the same basis, they just color it with their own ethnic flavors.
"We are dealing with Transylvanian Romanian folk dance, because it is part of the Hungarian heritage, as it is rooted in Transylvanian Hungarian folk dance," says János Varga, choreographer.
The program will feature the dances and music of Mezőség, including the Borsa Valley. Summoned villages: Alsótők, Girolt, Bonchida, Válaszút, Kide, Bálványoscsaba, Szék, Mezőkeszü, Magyarpalatka.
Singing: Magda Kásler, music by the orchestra of the Maros Art Ensemble
Dance leaders: Szabolcs-Zoltán Kovács and Magda Kásler
Director-choreographer: János Varga
