In Memory of Zoltán Kallós
In Memory of Zoltán Kallós
“– It is good to sing, because the wings of the song carry your sigh to God…
– A folk song hides neither joy nor sorrow; it speaks of everything…”
— this conversation took place between Uncle Zoli and one of his beloved folk singers during a collecting trip.

Our performance is inspired by the dedication, perseverance, and selfless work of Zoltán Kallós.
We revisit his life’s path—from the moment his parents met, through Uncle Zoli’s childhood, following in the footsteps of his collecting journeys, embracing the trials he endured, and honoring the legacy he left behind.
In truth, we have undertaken an impossible task, for no single performance can encompass the vast amount of material he bestowed upon us.

He accomplished all this with exemplary humility and modesty, as he himself said upon receiving the Kossuth Prize:
“I did my duty so that I could give something to the community to which I belong.”
