Playing the Victim
Translated by Andrea Tompa
Válja is an employee of the Moscow police; his task is to play the role of the victim during crime scene reconstructions. Otherwise, he lives with his mother; his father has recently died, and his romantic relationship is sustained only by habit and social conventions. One night, his father’s ghost appears and tells him that his mother and uncle are responsible for his sudden death. This marks the beginning of Válja’s most important case.
