The 22nd edition of the ProEtnica Intercultural Festival will take place in the Medieval Citadel of Sighișoara from August 26 to 30, 2026, under the High Patronage of the President of Romania.
ProEtnica 2026 holds special significance as it marks 25 years since the first edition of the festival (2001–2026). The continuity of the event stands as a strong testament to its relevance, sustainability, and long-term impact on intercultural dialogue in Romania and across Europe.
The festival is unique in Romania, bringing together all 20 national minorities within a unified and coherent framework. It offers a multidimensional approach that goes beyond the traditional folk festival format, featuring not only performances but also open-stage debates, exhibitions, and meetings dedicated to cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue.
Festival Director Volker Reiter stated in an interview with Romanian Television—the festival’s media partner—that over the course of the five-day event, approximately 600 artists representing various ethnic communities are expected to perform on the stage in Citadel Square, while around 10,000 spectators are anticipated to attend.
