The Path

May-19

15 may 2025
The Mureș County Museum cordially invites you to the opening of the exhibition “Drum” (“The Journey”), taking place on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at 6:00 PM, at the Tanners’ Bastion and the Cupola Gallery, within the Târgu Mureș Fortress.

Initiated by the Nod Cultural Association and organized in partnership with the Târgu Mureș City Hall – Center for Culture, Art and Leisure and the Mureș County Museum, the Drum exhibition presents the works of six renowned sculptors – strong contemporary artistic personalities: Maxim Dumitraș, Ioan Pop-Vereta, Sánta Csaba, Marcel Stanciu, Florin Strejac, and Constantin Țînteanu.

The primary unifying element of the exhibition is the shared working material – andesite – used in most of the works, as well as a complex and versatile visual language. This is expressed in profoundly personal, distinct, and message-driven forms.

The artists invite visitors on a journey through the shape and weight of andesite, which becomes a symbol, a challenge, and a cohesive element. The title of the exhibition evokes both a general and personal artistic journey for each participant, as well as an inner path of transformation through material, time, and sculptural gesture, carrying deep meaning:

“The journey as a beginning. The journey as a continuation. The journey as a guide. The journey that connects.”

This exhibition aims to serve as a guide toward one destination – the artwork itself – encouraging a series of encounters: with material, form, memory, and the artist’s message. Whether stone, wood, or bronze, the material becomes a catalyst for unique contemporary sculptural visions.

The paths of five of the exhibiting artists have previously crossed in the large-scale project of creating andesite markers for the Via Transilvanica. These markers are both visual signs delimiting physical space and tools of artistic cartography, forming a network of clues connecting places, artists, practices, and communities – marking both physical and symbolic routes as cultural milestones.

Among the over one hundred works on display, some belong to the Art Collection of the Mureș County Museum – Art Section.

Organized by the Nod Cultural Association – which supports art, heritage, and education as essential components of Transylvanian identity – the exhibition is supported by the German Business Clubs of Northern Transylvania (DWNT) and Târgu Mureș (DWM).
