The mother (HU)

Oct-04

Florian Zeller is terribly interested in situations in which human relationships within a family are broken, subjective memory becomes fragmented, the balance between perceived and real truth is upset, and the stubborn attachment to the chain of memory caused by lost time and the environment's insight into reality are at odds. Where is the point at which Anne's mind - a mother unable to grow up and let go of her son, and a wife bitterly poisoned by the loss of her husband - is shattered? We don't know. We, the viewers, are only involved in the final state, when imagination and reality are finally entangled. We see a desperate yet cynical woman wandering among the ruins of her own life.

Co-produced by the Karinthy Theatre in Budapest and the Tompa Miklós Company of the National Theatre in Târgu Mures, this production is a premiere in Hungarian. The director of the production is Talgat Batalov, an Uzbek-born artist. The Hungarian translation for both companies was made by Tamás Olt, director of Karinthy Theatre, and Szabolcs R. Váradi.

The production was supported by the Bethlen Gábor Fund.
