Florian Zeller:
THE MOTHER
a black comedy

Florian Zeller is deeply fascinated by those situations in which human relationships within a family deteriorate, subjective memory becomes fragmented, the balance between perceived and actual truth collapses, and where the stubborn attachment to a memory chain interrupted by lost time clashes with the surrounding reality. Where is the point at which Anne – a mother incapable of letting her son grow up and go, and a wife who, embittered by the loss of her husband, continues to poison her marriage – loses her mind? We do not know. We, the audience, only enter at the final stage, when imagination and reality have already become hopelessly entangled. We see a desperate yet cynical woman wandering among the ruins of her own life.
The production, created as a co-production between the Karinthy Theatre in Budapest and the Tompa Miklós Company of the National Theatre of Târgu Mureș, counts as the Hungarian-language premiere. The director of the performance is Talgat Batalov, a creator of Uzbek origin. The Hungarian translation was prepared for both companies by Tamás Olt, director of the Karinthy Theatre, and Szabolcs R. Váradi.

Duration: 1 hour 40 minutes without intermission, age limit: 14
