VIVALDI – BACH – DEBUSSY
Master Vivaldi is so popular that, by public demand, The Four Seasons is back on the program this year after last year’s finale. La Follia (The Madness) is one of the oldest European musical themes, and for centuries it has captivated every listener. Let us dive into the well of our culture – and at the bottom, we’ll find treasure!
It has been exactly 150 years since Bizet’s masterpiece Carmen premiered. I will perform a bouquet of themes from the opera – Habanera, Hey Toreador! – each one more beautiful than the last. Sadly, at the end of his difficult life, Bizet didn’t live to see his music written among the stars. It’s a fascinating story – I’ll share more about it during the concert.
Bach’s Great Fantasia and Fugue in G minor may only make the hearts of die-hard fans beat faster by title alone, but once this flawless masterpiece is heard, even those who previously only dropped Bach’s name to sound cool among friends will become true fans. I recorded it 10 years ago for my BACH album, and recently I’ve been wondering if I could take it to a new level. But I’ve come to the conclusion: I don’t need to. If I play it as I did back then, every nuance I captured in that arrangement will be heard. It will be worth attending multiple concerts (or buying the album), because I guarantee even the experts won’t catch everything on first listen. Don’t get me wrong – the greatness is not mine, it belongs to the composer. I merely dare to reveal it. In such moments I like to say: “I have an organ and I’m not afraid to use it!”
I wrestled with whether to release the long-awaited love album. I’ve been sitting on it since 2018, polishing it, and it became more and more beautiful – but meanwhile, the CD era ended. In the end – oh, hubris – I fell in love with it so much that I decided to release it in a limited edition.
From this album, I’ll perform Casta Diva, the heart-wrenching aria from Bellini’s opera Norma (also known as The Swan of Catania), and Debussy’s Clair de Lune. We will cry – but don’t worry, dear listener, not all tears are bitter! Especially not the tears of catharsis and beauty. We’ll also raise our fists and shout “YES!” and feel united with every living being – so deep is the ocean of our heritage.
All in all, I bring you the usual spirit of the Lords of the Organ series!
A variety of music, power and humility, depths and heights – all in a visual concert format, enriched with stunning artistic graphics. Like Vivaldi, this concert doesn’t just aim to serve popular taste – it seeks to shape it!
