KŐKERTBEN LILIOM - AN EVENING WITH BERECZ ANDRÁS

On this evening, András Berecz is not searching for that great, grand and splendid Truth with golden hair, but for the small, shabby, grey one, whose flag is often an empty sack, and whose stomach rumbles, not its mouth. He seeks his subject in the deep memory accumulated in tradition, and what is striking about this source is how he does not doubt it for a single moment: he dives headfirst into it and frolics in its waters. King Matthias, frivolous courtiers, the cunning and power-hungry Falsehood that lives off the Truth, the joy of the lily locked in a stone garden, the rare occasions when Truth takes the throne… all cross his path. The condensed images, vivid similes and weighty metaphors carry the genre of the tale towards the shores of philosophy. There, it borders on philosophy where colours do not fade, good humour does not wane, vitality remains inexhaustible, and existence is play.
