The play written by German-speaking Austro-Hungarian author Ödön von Horváth has the following motto: “And love will never end”. The story of Kasimir and Karoline confirms that love is never-ending, but shows that it can suffer transformations and can take different directions.
Published in 1932 and reflecting the tension of the interwar period, „Kasimir şi Karoline“ presents a world at the edge of salvation and dissolution, a genuine vanity fair where the social inequities inflate and all the aggression accumulated by the disadvantaged foreshadows – through the atmosphere that is created – the Second World War that will forever change the history of Germany and of the world.
Kasimir becomes unemployed overnight and personal insecurities and jealousy makes him question the love of his fiancée Karoline. Between happines and stability it might stand the threatening shape of shortages or the lack of true communication and mutual trust?
