Virginia Woolf:
JACOB’S ROOM
– performance by the fourth-year acting class –
Who is Jacob Flanders? What kind of person is he?
“We have no unbiased and fair opinion of our fellow human beings. We deceive ourselves when we think we understand another person. That is why judging one another is pointless. We must rely on hints, and our imagination fills in the dark gaps.”
This performance does not tell a story, nor does it portray the life of a young man. Instead, it attempts to fill an empty room with fragments of memory and sentences, and to resolve the absence symbolized by a pair of ownerless shoes.
