French Film Festival 2024

Mar-28

28 march 2024
In its centennial year, the French Institute in Romania is organizing the 28th edition of the FRENCH FILM FESTIVAL, which will take place from March 21 to 31 in Bucharest and 12 other cities across the country. In Târgu Mureș, the event is scheduled for March 28-31 at the Mureș County Museum - History Section (Cetate), Multimedia Hall.
The general theme of this year's festival is Vertiges – vertigo and its variations in cinema. Our era is marked by continuous acceleration, change, and a loss of balance, all characteristic signs of vertigo. – Must everything change so that nothing changes? Or does everything truly change? And if tomorrow is already here, what can cinema tell us about these changes? – The audience is invited to immerse themselves in a stunning program that supports genre cinema, in particular, and celebrates alternative and challenging film proposals.
One of the festival's novelties is the Mauvais genres section, which includes a selection of French genre films (films de genre). In this section, the audience can watch Vincent doit mourir by Stéphan Castang. This debut film, selected at the Critics' Week at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023, tells the story of a man, Vincent, who is repeatedly and inexplicably attacked by people trying to kill him.
In the Panorama section, the films Le livre des solutions, Cronique d’une laisone passagere, and Une Année Difficile, by Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache, will be presented, with the latter being a major public success. This delightful comedy tells the story of Albert and Bruno, portrayed by Pio Marmaï and Jonathan Cohen, reluctantly joining an ecological movement.

The local organizer is the Mureș County Museum, with the support of the Mureș County Council.

The FRENCH FILM FESTIVAL is organized by the French Institute in Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iași, and Timișoara and co-organized by: Arad Municipal Cultural Center, French Alliance Brașov, Cinefeel Brăila, Multifunctional Educational Center for Youth 'Jean Constantin' Constanța, Inspire Cinema Craiova, Arta by Cityplex Sfântu Gheorghe, National Theatre 'Radu Stanca' Sibiu, French Alliance Suceava, Mureș County Museum, and Mureș County Council, F-Sides, Residency BRD Scene9.
