“Csongor and Tünde” is one of the cornerstone works of Hungarian literature. The questions it raises are the fundamental questions of human existence: what is the purpose and meaning of life, what is happiness, does eternal life exist, and if so, do we truly desire it?
In this barren earthly Eden, money, knowledge, and power cannot grant immortality or happiness; only through “the one true love” can the fruit of the golden apple tree of Life be tasted. Around this tree, Csongor wanders dreamily—when he is not actually asleep. Along the concentric circles of his journey, he is guided, accompanied, and tempted by many figures and forms: Tünde and Ilma, Mirígy and the Night, devil’s sons and Balga, humans and marionettes.
The grand philosophy is voiced by Vörösmarty, while everyday truths are brought to life through the texts of Noémi Vilmos and the music of 30Y. An experience of existence rooted in a compulsory reading, with an optimal balance and duration for audiences aged 14 and up.
Performance duration: 70 minutes
