Long-standing cultural events often feel the pressure to outdo themselves with more and more new programs each year. At the 31st Marosvásárhely International Book Fair, we’re offering nearly a hundred different programs — not out of some sense of expansion for its own sake, but as an organic response to feedback and experience from previous years. We continue to emphasize the promotion of literature and reading, especially targeting young people and children, because the future of books, publishing, and literature lies in the hands of the next generation of readers. For the youngest, we’ll have childcare, creative activities, and workshops waiting.

The first evening of the fair kicks off strong yet relaxed — not with a classic book launch or literary matinée, but with dinner shared with writer families. Guests can look forward to informal conversations about literature, family, and different creative perspectives. The organizers and authors will also host individual book launches throughout the fair, and visitors can enjoy tea or coffee at the literary café while chatting about books. This year, we’re also highlighting translators, whose work makes the best of contemporary international literature accessible to Hungarian-speaking readers.

"I’ve been organizing this book fair for thirty years, but we’ve never had the program in this shape seven months ahead of time," noted István Káli Király. An independent website is also in the works, which will host materials and archives from previous editions.

The 31st Marosvásárhely International Book Fair is organized by passionate reading addicts, incurable dreamers, troubadours, creative souls, systematic thinkers, men, women, parents, and grandparents — all united by a love of books — under the umbrella of the Pro Kaart Cultural Association:
