“With a red-and-black halo
 Row, row quietly.
I know you sink into my soul
And there you will die, my love.”
The name of Ady and his love poetry are forever linked with Léda, as more than half of his over 150 love poems are addressed to her. The encounter between Brüll Adél, the sophisticated lady, and Ady was a fateful experience in both their lives. Ady immediately fell in love with her worldly charm and radiant femininity. Their long and stormy love was ended by the poet in a cruel farewell poem, Elbocsátó, szép üzenet, one of the most famous love farewell poems in Hungarian literature.
“I ask Fate to ask for you,
May it not entwine with my starry fate
And whatever swallows me, ashes or debris:
You are through me, for I have seen you
And you are no longer, for I no longer see you.”
Rózsa Tatár’s monodrama Ady and Adél – “Fever Dreams” from Our Lives was awarded the Cédrus Foundation Nívó Prize. The drama is the swan song of the lonely and unhappy Léda.
